What Adalo actually exports.

It's worth being precise, because Adalo genuinely publishes native apps — which is easy to mistake for owning the code. What you get are shippable build artifacts and your data, not an editable codebase.

  • Native store builds

    Adalo compiles your app automatically via Codemagic into a real iOS build (IPA) and Android build (AAB), plus a responsive web app.

  • Store publishing

    You can publish those builds to the Apple App Store, Google Play, and a custom domain — no code required.

  • Your IP and your data

    You own the intellectual property in the app you built, and you can export your app's data at any time.

  • No source code

    There is no download of the React Native source — the binaries are build outputs, not a project you can open and edit.

How the export works: Adalo builds and ships the store binaries for you through its publishing pipeline; you take the published apps and your exported data. What you can't take is the source that produced them.

The gap

What the export does not include.

Because nothing editable comes out, the gap here is the app itself. That's the honest shape of a platform that publishes for you but keeps the code: great for getting to the stores, a rebuild if you ever need to own and extend it.

  • The React Native source codebase

    The IPA and AAB are compiled artifacts, not source. There's no documented way to download the app's React Native code or run it off Adalo, so a developer can't open, change or extend what Adalo built.

    Your data model, actions and authentication run on Adalo's hosted runtime. Publishing the app doesn't detach any of that — the app still depends on Adalo's backend to function.

There's no exported code to assess, so the real question is what a real mobile rebuild involves. You own the IP and can carry your data across; what you can't carry is the app, which has to be rebuilt — typically in React Native or native Swift/Kotlin — as a codebase you own and can hand to a team. The upside of doing that is exactly what Adalo withholds: source you can open, test, extend and host, instead of a build pipeline you can't see into.

"Adalo publishes native apps" — what that does and doesn't mean

The confusion worth clearing up: Adalo shipping a real App Store build is not the same as you owning the app. Here's the split. You get: published iOS and Android binaries, a responsive web app, your IP, and your data. You don't get: the React Native source, the backend, or any way to run the app without Adalo. So the store presence is real and yours to keep — and the moment you need to change something a developer would normally change in code, you're looking at a rebuild, because there's no code to change.
